Cataria Dev Blog 2

Miner

The Miner skill will affect villagers' ability to collect minerals that require a pickaxe to collect. Working at the Mine will increase this skill.

Rancher

Animals!! This skill will affect how well your villagers handle animals by maintaining their health and resource production. The higher this skill, the healthier and more productive the animals.

Watcher

CANCELED! The Watcher skill was intended to have a villager stay up at night and keep guard of your town, which proved to be a bit boring and unnecessary when we cut the raiding mechanic of the game.

(As we continue to develop the game, things change. These changes are necessary, it's common and designed to create a better game for you in the end. You’ll notice more changes like this over the months and years of production, especially as we receive feedback from all of you about the things you like and don’t like.)

Metalworker

This job will be related to the Blacksmith where you can turn the ingots that you mined into bars that you can use in the construction of your town

Hunter

The Hunter skill increases when you collect meat for your town. For all the vegetarians out there, don’t worry, you won’t need to create the Hunter’s Lodge building to survive.

We are consistently looking at ways to enhance the skills we have currently. Instead of making them basic “Woodsman cuts wood better”, we want the skills to have a more dynamic impact. To do this, we designed multiple ways skills can affect various jobs around town and story events in the game.

If a villager is injured in a story or finds someone else injured, their Healer skill will come in handy. If there’s an ancient text that needs translating, then Scholar is your new best friend.

All of these skills can be improved by jobs, events, and schooling. We aim to create a system where you have specialists around your town whose expertise is mainly focused on one skill or another.

Minigames

This can be a whole dev blog on its own, but it affects skills so here’s a sneak peek. Minigames will be associated with every job around town. They aren’t necessary to collect resources but if completed successfully, they will give a boost to productivity over a certain amount of time, and increase a villager’s skill. Our goal is to create a fun minigame where you also get rewards related to the job. This will also increase the skill of the village performing the minigame.

Stay tuned for more on minigames…
